«Strengthen Water Supply Services in
Sambor District, Kratie Province»

Cambodian Water Supply Association (CWA) received a financial support from WaterAid to implement a new project called «Strengthen Water Supply Services in Sambo District, Kratie Province» for seven months from November 2019 to May 2021.

The project worked with two Private Water Operators (PWOs) and commune councils in Sambo and Sandan communes in order to build their capacity on a basic water production and water quality testing, as well as providing a training on roles and responsibilities of water supply services.

In addition, the project also provides the pro-poor water supply connection subsidies to the ID poor households with Level 1 and Level 2. As a result, there were 80 poor households have access to water supply.

The project has its expected results as following:

        • Local Authorities and Private Water Operators increased knowledge on the role and responsible of water supply services.
        • Private Water Operators improved their water supply quality align to the clean water supply standard of the Ministry of Industry Science Technology & Innovation (MISTI).
        • 100 of ID poor 1 & 2 connected to water supply.
        • At least 100 new connections increased for one water operator.
        • The relationship and collaboration between local authorities and private water operators increased.

The project implemented some activities as following:

      1. 1. Providing a two-day training to sub-national authorities and PWOs on roles and responsibilities of water supply services and guidance on the production and supply of water.
      2. 2. Providing one coaching to sub-national authorities and PWOs on water quality testing methods and monitor the water supply services.
      3. 3. Facilitating PWOs and local authorities to organize one commune meeting.
      4. 4. Providing about 80 pro-poor connection subsidies.
