The 12th General Assembly
of the Cambodian Water Supply Association

Friday, February 23, 2024, at 8:00 AM, the Cambodian Water Supply Association (CWA) held a General Assembly (GA) to review the annual work results in year 2023 and work plan for year 2024 at Tonle Bassac 2 Restaurant in Phnom Penh. This GA event under the chairman of H.E HEM VANNDY, Minister Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI) and Mr. LENG KHEAV, Chairman of Board of Director (BoD)of the CWA. The event was attended by Ministry leaders and representatives from the Ministry of Rural Development (MRD), Embassy of the United Kingdom (UK), Embassy of the Australia in Cambodia, Water.org Organization, CAPRED Program, Development Partners, National and International NGOs, Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Banks, Microfinance Institutions, Suppliers companies, private water operators (PWOs) member of CWA. The event total participants 415 and (115 females). There were also be an exhibition of products and services related to the water sector.

The Purpose:

1). To celebrate the BoD’s achievements in the 3rd term (2020–2023)

2). To elect the BoDs for the 4th term (2024–2027)

3). To celebrate CWA’s achievement in 2023 and plan for 2024

4). To increase relationships among members, exchange experiences as well as the new technology.

Welcome Remarks and Opening speech by

Warming welcome remark from Mr. LENG KHEAV, Chairman of BODs of CWA. His welcomed and thanked to H.E HEM VANNDY from MISTI and all stakeholders who took time to attend the GA event today on Friday February, 23, 2024. Mr. LENG KHEAV also highlighted to the event that CWA and PWOs take a part in providing clean water to customers with quality, safety, sustainability and affordability. In this case the PWOs has contributed to the provision of clean water services by 53.57%, which is a demonstration of the partnership of PWOs with the Royal Government. On this occasion, Mr. LENG KHEAV also requested to the Ministry MISTI to continue to support to the CWA association and mobilize investment resources to support PWOs to accelerate and ensure success in promoting the water sector in Cambodia.

Opening remarks speech by H.E HEM VANNDY, Minister of MISTI, the Minister also mentioned the cooperation of the Ministry of appeal with private sector development partners and relevant institutions in the past and Ministry of MISTI had afforded prepared legal documents and strengthen the public water utility that has just become a public enterprise, strengthen human resources in the water sector and the development of water development funds. At the same time, the Ministry of MISTI also wants to see PWOs have strengthened their capacity to lead business management, increase leadership, ownership and high responsibility to expand and strengthen the water supply services in the license provided. PWOs must be based on the four basic conditions:  to supply water to customer with the quality, safety, sustainability and affordability.

The 12th GA of the CWA ended at 8:30 pm on the same day. As a result, the 12th GA ended smoothly as planned, especially since the number of participants reached their expectations with the most successful, happy and friendly.
